Music: EFA – Balling Like Don Jazzy BLDJ
The last few months have been a time of
introspection for EFA. Working hard as a member of the main cast for the
MTV Show; SHUGA, meant time away from the studio and making music — his
first love.
In the downtime between long hours
shooting, he had the chance to think about many different issues – both
personal and global. The result of those pockets of rumination was the
thought that most young people like himself hardly have other young
people to look up to. For him, of the few choices, Don Jazzy stood out.
Balling Like Don Jazzy is a song of
aspiration from a young man making a steady climb from obscurity. A
Cross River indigene that calls Ibadan home knows too well what swimming
against the tide is.
Spurred on by the moderate success of his
previous singles through the year: Over You featuring Praiz, Open &
Close featuring Dammy Krane and, more recently Sunmobi, EFA recorded out
this slice of feel good music. And like most young people that he
represents, he is aware of the distance to where he wishes to be in his
dreams. With that awareness comes the will and strength of purpose that
are stronger than the present circumstance.
According to him, “Balling Like Don Jazzy
is a song that speaks from the perspective of a young Nigerian who
aspires to a position of greatness by dint of hard work. We decided to
install Don Jazzy as someone for the youths to look up to. Especially
since our traditional role models are largely criminals and corrupt
government officials.”
Balling Like Don Jazzy was produced by Smith and Orbeat.
EFA is signed to Jus’ Kiddin’ Records.
