Abolish Indonesia Military Virginity Test; Human Rights Group cries Out

Image
It is true that Indonesia which is the latest moslem community in the world conducts a virginity test for female folks wishing to join its Army. They must have believed that virgins are more agile and more dedicated to the military work, but human right groups are calling for the abolishment of such act saying that the test has no scientific validity. "The Indonesian armed forces should recognize that harmful and humiliating 'virginity tests' on women recruits do nothing to strengthen national security," said Nisha Varia, HRW's women's rights advocacy director. A human rights group urged Indonesia to abolish invasive "virginity tests" for female recruits and the fiancees of military officers in its armed forces, saying international treaties had described the practice as degrading and cruel. US National Security Advisor Susan Rice said the comments were part of an "alarming deterioration of the broader human rights situation" in Gambia. "The recent unconscionable comments by Gambian President Yahya Jammeh underscore why we must continue to seek a world in which no one lives in fear of violence or persecution because of who they are or whom they love," Rice said in a statement.  Rice said the United States is concerned about reports of broader rights violations in the country, including allegations of missing US citizens. "We are deeply concerned about credible reports of torture, suspicious disappearances, inclu...

Egypt Sentence Former President Mohammed Morsi To Death

Image
An Eyptian court today sentenced former Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi to death over a mass prison break in 2011, weeks after he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for ordering the arrest and torture of protesters during his time in power. Morsi was removed as president y the military in July 2013 following mass street protests against his rule. Since then, the authorities have banned his Muslim Brotherhood movement and arrested thousands of his supporters. All death sentences must first be sent to the Grand Mufti, Egypt's highest religious authority, for his opinion on whether they should stand. Convictions are still open to appeal, even if the Grand Mufti gives his approval. Morsi's supporters have said that the cases against him are politically motivated and attempts to give legal cover to a coup, while Morsi has rejected the authority of the courts. Morsi was Egypt's first freely elected president, but protests began building less than a year into his rule when h...

Shop owners who refuse face closure and prosecution, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported Monday. It is the latest in a series of anti-Muslim campaigns by Chinese authorities in the name of fighting religious extremism to undermine Islam influence in northwestern China. Man Murders Ex-Girl Friend, Sexually Abuses Her Corpse, Then Eats Her Heart

Image
A man in Indiana is accused of not only raping and killing his ex girlfriend, but eating her heart and other organs as well. Joseph Oberhansley, 34, allegedly killed his ex Tammy Jo Blanton, 46, sexually abused her corpse, and proceeded to eat parts of her heart, lungs, and brain back in September. The jury will be considering the death penalty, although Joseph told the court that there were "a lot of lies and deception" going on in the case. We don't really know how someone could be charged with eating another person unless it was true, but we feel sorry for Tammy Jo's family during this troubling time.

David Cameron Wins in Polls; Will Stay Five More Years

Image
David Cameron is on course for an extraordinary victory as 'shy Tories' came out at the last moment to keep him in Downing Street. He said it was 'too early to say' what the final result of the General Election would be, but added that there was 'the chance now to build on the foundation' laid in the last parliament.  But the Tory leader will have to deal with SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon who is cleaning up north of the border, leaving Scotland as a near one-party state. In a signal that he now accepts he will not be PM, Mr Miliband said the next government 'has a huge responsibility' to hold the UK together. The SNP tide has swept aside Labour and Lib Dem big beasts including Jim Murphy and Douglas Alexander in a tide of nationalism which has already sparked calls for a second independence referendum. There are doubts that Mr Miliband will survive as leader until Friday lunchtime, as he faces being left with 17 fewer seats than Gordon Brown...
