President Buhari has left Nigeria for Germany, where he is expected to attend the G-7 submit in the southeastern state of Bavaria. The ex-military dictator now born-again democrat jetted off the country on Sunday morning for the summit which is scheduled to hold from June 7 to 8, 2015. President Buhari would not be participating in the main meetings, since Nigeria is not a member of the G7 group. He is in a group of seven other Heads of State who were called in as guests. The invitation was extended to President Buhari, by German Chancellor Angela Merkel even before he was sworn in on May 29th.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan Gets Recommended For Nobel Peace Award

Nigeria’s former President, Goodluck Jonathan has been recommended for the Nobel Peace Prize by a public policy organisation on African affairs, the Africa Political & Economic Strategic Center (AFRIPOL). The organisation noted that the will of Alfred Nobel, the progenitor of Nobel Prize stated that Peace Prize be awarded to whoever “shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”. Accordingly the organisation held that the ‘peaceful way President Jonathan conceded to President-elect Buhari deserves the attention of Nobel Peace Prize committee. Senate House Today passed 123 out of 591 bills brought before it since 2011

The Senate today held its valedictory session to mark the end of the 7th Senate Assembly. At the session which was well attended by past Senate Presidents and Senators, the Majority leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba said out of the 591 bills brought before them in the last 4 years, only 123 bills were passed. The 46 passed in less than 10 minutes yesterday is included in the 123 bills passed in the 4 year period of the assembly. In his remark, the Senate President, Senator David Mark said he takes full responsibility for all the commissions and omissions recorded in the 7th Senate Assembly where he served as a leader. Court orders NDLEA to suspend actions on Kashamu's extradition

A Federal High Court in Lagos has asked the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to suspend all actions on the move to extradite the Ogun East Senator-elect, Prince Buruji Kashamu, to the United States to face trial on alleged drug-trafficking offences. The presiding judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba, while adjourning hearing in all pending applications on the subject matter till June 19, said on Thursday that status quo must be maintained till all the applications were decided one way or the other.  Pending before Buba is the committal suit filed by Kashamu against the Attorney General of the Federation and the Chairman of NDLEA, citing them for contempt of court. In response, the NDLEA has filed preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the matter. House of Rep pass Petroleum Industry Bill

House of Reps members today passed the controversial Petroleum Industry Bill. The House members had on Tuesday June 2nd suspended its deliberation on the bill due to some unresolved clauses and a committee was set up with the view of settling all the issues in the bill. The members on resumption today chorused "Ayee" as the Deputy House Speaker Emeka Ihedioha called for a vote on the bill. The Petroleum Industry bill will among other things help create a more conducive business environment for petroleum operations and enhance exploration of petroleum resources in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Senate has passed a record 46 bills in less than five hours, Wednesday. The National Assembly has faced criticism over its poor performance despite taking a huge part of government budget. The National Assembly has spent N600 billion in four years but managed to pass only about 106 within the period. The Senate passed the 46 bills just a day before the end of its four-year term. Court to deliver judgement on Synagogue building collapse on July 8

Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, the judge ruling on the collapse of a building at the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Ikotun Lagos, has set aside July 8th to deliver his judgement on the matter. 116 people, many of them foreigners, perished in the building collapse. The case has repeatedly been stalled by Prophet T. B Joshua who failed to honor the coroner's invitation to appear before it.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to charge six top officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and 16 others to a Federal High Court on June 2, for a sum of 8b Naira currency fraud. The commission said in a statement signed by its Head of Media & Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, on Sunday that it would bring the executives before the court for their involvement in the theft and re-circulation of defaced and mutilated currencies. President Buhari Appoints Femi Adesina, Garba Shehu as Spokesmen

Nigeria's new President Muhammadu Buhari have started appointing people he will work with . The President on Sunday evening, May 31, 2015 named Mr Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu as his spokesmen. Femi Adesina will serve as Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) while Garba Shehu will be the new Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity). The President has also approved the appointment of Lawal Abdullahi Kazaure as the State Chief of Protocol (SCOP). Mr Adesina is the current President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and serves as the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Sun newspapers. Garba Shehu served as the Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. He was the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors sixteen years ago.
