NAF helicopter crashes in Makurdi

A military aircraft recently released from presidential fleet and handed over to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reportedly crashed in Makurdi, Benue State. The Nation gathered from a senior Air Force officer in Makurdi that the Augusta AW101 helicopter crashed after landing. The source, who pleaded not to be named, said it was not a major crash. “What happened was that the helicopter had landed but suddenly moved up and tumbled,” the source added. Our correspondent learnt that only the flight engineer was on board the chopper when it crashed and did not sustain serious injury. The NAF Public Relations Officer in Makurdi, Okon Bassey, who was contacted by our correspondent, feigned ignorance of the incident, claiming he is attending a course in Lagos and promised to send his assistant’s contact details. Two Dead As Suicide Bomber Hits Maiduguri

A male suicide bomber targeting a major motorpark in Maiduguri, Borno State has killed himself and a passerby. The bomber was said to be attempting to enter the Muna Garage Motorpark at about 9.30pm Wednesday night, but was intercepted. “He blew off himself and killed one person nearby,” a Civilian JTF commander, who preferred anonymity, told Daily Sun. The police command’s spokesman, Victor Isuku, a Deputy Superintendent, confirmed the incident in a statement to newsmen. “An explosion occurred at Muna Garage along Gamboru-Ngala Road, Maiduguri. Two persons including the suicide bomber died on the spot,” he said. Isuku said a Mercedes Benz car parked by the roadside near the scene of the blast was damaged. The explosion occurred nearly a week when multiple explosions linked to Boko Haram hit the city, killing six people. EFCC Arraigns Five over N26million Internet Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, 2015 arraigned Uchenna Nwako, Ejikeme Oluchukwu, Nnamani Ikechukwu, Ibeh kodili Martins and Nwako Victoria Ifeoma before Justice D.V Agishir of the Federal High Court, Enugu, on a 16-count charge bordering on intent to defraud and obtaining N26,338,000 by false pretense. The five accused persons were picked up by EFCC operatives on February 27, 2013 after intelligence reports indicated that they were involved in fraudulent activities bordering on cybercrime. Part of the charge read:  "That you Uchenna Nwako, Ejikme Oluchukwu, Nnamani Ikechukwu, Ibeh Kodili Martins and Nwako Victoria Ifeoma sometime in November 2012 in Enugu, Enugu State within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, conspired among yourselves to commit an unlawful act to wit: obtaining money by false pretense and thereby committed an offense contrary to Section 8(a) and punishable under section 1(3) of Advance Fee Fraud and Othe...

Buhari To Tour Aso Rock Villa With President Jonathan on 28 May

Nigeria's President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari will tour the Aso rock villa with President Jonathan on the 28th of May, a day before he will assume power as President of Nigeria and move into the villa. He is also to recieve handover notes from the outgoing administration.  Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State made this known to newsmen after the Council of state meeting at the Presidential Villa today.

I killed to avenge the killing of my friend- Cult member says Joberi Pyagbara, a 20-year old Rivers state based cult member, says he killed and buried a rival cult member in a community close to his own after a rival cult group known as Dewua stormed his community and killed his friends who belonged to his own cult group known as Dewell.   Joberi said he joined the cult in 2006 after working as a conductor for some years. He said after dropping his arms as a militant for the federal governments amnesty programme, he decided to pick up arms again after the killing of his friends.
