Unconfirmed Number of People Die in Gun Battle Between Boko Haram and Nigerian Military in Borno




Soldiers last night repelled an attack by Boko Haram as they attempted to invade Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.


The insurgents came in large numbers through Dala, a suburb of the town but were not able to enter due to obstacle imposed by the military.


The soldiers engaged them in a fire exchange and they resorted to shelling from a distance into Maiduguri leaving eleven residents of the Gomari Airport area killed and many injured.

An entire household of five was killed while other victims met their death randomly.

The incidence which lasted through the night has thrown residents into fear and panic.
