10 things you should know about Skales' debut Album 'Man Of The Year'
Skales has been one artist i personally have a flare for right from the word go in his carrier, i can remember vividly when he dropped that single "Heading For A Grammy which painted an image of the vibrant rapper in my mind.
I personally was disturbed when it seemed he was not really getting the attention he needed from his former label EME.
Glory be to God Skales has finally made it.. Yes he proved many people wrong.
Here are 10 unknown facts about the album.
- The ‘Man of the year album is made up of 22 tracks, with songs spanning a wide range of genres and fusion.
- Skales completely ignores his past life. ‘Man Of The Year’ has no mention of EME, Banky W, nor Wizkid. Many would want the recent drama with Wizkid to be a good lyrical point, but Skales fails to go down this path. Bygones are bygones.
- On ‘Man of The Year’, there’s an embarrassment of riches in the collaboration department. An array of talented high –profile features are on the LP with Davido, Burna Boy Ice Prince, Phyno, Victoria Kimani, Olamide, Reekado Banks, Capital Femi, Rotimi, Uhuru, Attitude and more, all getting a piece of the action.
- Some songs were recorded many years ago – circa 2012: The new album is a testament of Skales’s growth as an artiste, with songs dating as far back as 2012 making the cut. It’s his debut effort, and sentiments are not spared. His romance with the formative years of his craft can be felt.
- It is not a Hip hop album. there’s more singing and Pop music, than his rap angle. Skales stays true to free art, pushing the confines of his creativity, sampling diverse genres all in a bid to give listeners a holistic approach to modern music. His breakout genre – Hip hop – is treated like all the other genres. No special attention was given to it.
- The next set of singles to be released off the album are power features with Olamide and Davido. Both songs carry enough stardust to generate mass acceptance, and no holds are barred. The videos for both singles have been shot, and will be strategically released.
- Intro by Dotun – powerful and inspiring. Of all the intros ever taken upon by the OAP from Cool FM, ‘Man of The Year’ arguably holds his best effort yet. Dotun opens the album with a captivating introduction that is sure to send the appetite of listeners off the roof.
- Drops May 18 2015: Make no mistake, ‘Man of The Year’s release date is set in stone. It cannot be changed. Hold on tight.
- No international collaboration: If credit is to be given to Skales, it is his refusal to adulterate the local content of his album with an international guest. ‘Man Of The Year’ is a strictly local affair prepared specially for local music consumers and fans.
- There is no label-mate on the album: This is really puzzling. No Baseline Entertainment artiste got the nod on this album.Saeon, Aramide, and Mr Chidoo are missing on the album. Not that it takes away from the quality of the work, but it is common practice for artistes to extend guest verses and hooks to others under his signed umbrella.
