Twenty-one people were killed and two suspected suicide bombers arrested yesterday after a blast in Biu, a town in Borno State, according to a hospital source. The blast came as President Goodluck Jonathan paid an unscheduled visit to bolster Nigerian troops fighting Boko Haram insurgents in the key states of Borno and Adamawa states. Our security source disclosed that a solitary suicide bomber detonated explosive devices near a checkpoint where local vigilante were carrying out stop and search operations along Maiduguri Road in Biu town. “Three suicide bombers arrived at the checkpoint around 2:40 p.m. where civilians are usually asked to come down from vehicles for the usual stop and search,” said the source. He added that the first suicide bomber attacked the youth volunteers on guard duty while another one attempted to trigger his explosive, targeting the rescuers. “He was noticed and struck down by angry youths in the area,” the source said. According to the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Lagos state, Mr. Akin Orebiyi, 1.8 million Lagos state residents have not collected their Permanent Voters card. Mr Orebiyi said this while on a visit to the Lagos state governor at the Lagos house Ikeja, yesterday Friday February 27th "As at yesterday (Thurs­day), the total number of cards collected in Lagos to date is 3.693 million of 5.5 million cards that we collected so far from Abuja. At the moment, we are still expecting another 430,000 cards which should arrive by next week. A mobile policeman in Bauchi state shot dead his superior and former ADC to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, Superintendent of Police, Chris Eza (pictured above), yesterday February 26th in Bauchi. According to family sources, Chris Eza had gone out to get food at an eatery along Ahmadu Bello way around 9pm when he saw some police officers on patrol. On observation, he found out that one of them, the suspect, was not properly dressed and immediately cautioned him. The junior officer, a Corporal, got angry and began to grumble for being told to dress properly. An angry Chris felt his action was unacceptable and warned the officer that he was going to disarm him if he didn't take care. Instead of apologizing, the junior officer cocked his gun and threatened to shoot his boss. He told Eza that if he came close to him, he would shoot. A woman identified as Mrs Taiwo Sheriffdeen gave birth to a baby boy without arms in Ifo LGA of Ogun state on Tuesday February 24th. According to a report by Punch, the woman gave birth to the baby, her first child, at Majotal Hospital, a private hospital in the Ilogbo area of Ado/Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state. Speaking on the birth of her deformed baby, the mother said her husband, Mudashiru Sheriffdeen, ran away after he was told that their child was deformed at birth (the baby pictured above). “This is my first child and I do not know why I gave birth to this kind of a baby.
